It is not uncommon for women to complain of low back and pelvic pain while pregnant. A common condition known as SPD, or symphysis pubis dysfunction, presents itself during pregnancy for many moms. SPD is a condition where the symphysis pubis, a stiff joint that connects the two halves of your pelvis, causes pain. As your body produces a hormone called relaxin, which softens your ligaments in order to help the baby pass through the pelvis, the pelvis slowly "relaxes" and moves in order to prefer for childbirth causing this pelvic dysfunction and pain. Chiropractic can help to significantly reduce this pain by doing regular adjustments throughout pregnancy.

According to the American Pregnancy Association, 50-70% of pregnant women experience low back pain at some point. The back pain generally peaks during the third trimester when the baby gains the most weight. Adjustments during pregnancy are gentle and effective at maintaining a healthy position for the growing baby as well as reducing stress on the joints of mom.

Chiropractic care is a safe and effective treatment that helps prepare the mother’s body for the journey of pregnancy and child birth. There are specialized adjusting techniques to accommodate pregnancy. Many of the women that choose to receive chiropractic care during their pregnancy find that it helped them use little to no pain medications throughout their delivery. There are also studies finding that receiving regular care can help reduce labor time.

At Malucci chiropractic we offer comprehensive visits focusing on treatment of the body as a whole. Our typical visit lasts for 30 minutes and includes evaluation from your head to your toes. We strive to offer quality chiropractic care. Chiropractic is a natural healing profession, restoring and maintaining optimal health. Chiropractic is a science that works to maintain the body's natural balance, without use of medications or surgery as treatment. This is accomplished with gentle spinal adjustments to correct nerve irritation. A healthy spine protects your spinal cord and allows the nerves to branch out unimpaired into all parts of the body. Today, Chiropractic is the second largest primary health care profession in the United States.

The adjustment for an infant is quite different than the adjustment for an adult. The technique we utilize at Malucci chiropractic is called sustained contact. Sustained contact is a gentle and effective technique using a very mild sustained pressure to correct misalignments in the spine. Babies often have misalignments in their cervical spine from the pressure applied to their heads during labor/birth. These misalignments may or may not manifest with symptoms. Common "symptoms" we treat infants for include, spitting up, inability to stay latched during breastfeeding, trouble with sleeping, ear infections, colic, and many more.

As your child begins to sit and crawl the bones of the spine become misaligned as he is learning his new skills. There does not have to be a presenting symptom for the need for an adjustment. We call these wellness checks. If you come in and do not need an adjustment then that wellness check is free of charge!
